Hey everyone! I’m Jamie, born and bred in Newcastle. Why aye!
I’ve always loved calling Newcastle home. From the amazing food and bustling markets to the independent shops, creative art scene and live music, there’s always something going on.
It’s a city full of character, creativity and lovely people, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
I must say, I'm quite the art lover. I've always had a knack for creating unique gifts that you won't find just anywhere!
Speaking of markets and shopping, let me regale you with an adventure I embarked upon with my sisters back in the year 2014. We set up our very own market stalls, offering a "kawaii" (meaning "cute" in Japanese) gifts and a range of handmade goodies throughout Newcastle. Talk about a bloomin' good time!
And as for me, during that pandemic lockdown, I took an unexpected journey to Norwich and discovered a hidden talent for rugmaking. The intricacy and artistry of it all had me hooked, I tell ya!
So, I decided to establish my very own rug-making studio. Oh, the adventures I've had, teaching others this beautiful craft and collaborating with some pretty fancy-schmancy brands!
But as much as I enjoyed it, there was always a part of me that missed home.
So, in 2023, I decided it was time to move my studio back to Newcastle! I moved all my courses online, giving me more time to focus on growing my brands and getting creative.
And honestly, it's been one of the best decisions I've made! I absolutely love being back, running market stalls alongside my sisters, meeting lovely people and continuing to grow my rug-making business.
It's been a busy but exciting journey, and I wouldn't have it any other way!
What is tufting?
Tufting is a modern take on traditional rug-making. It's a fun and creative way of turning colourful yarn into soft, fluffy pieces of art!
Using a special tool called a tufting gun, yarn is pushed through a fabric to create all sorts of designs, from colourful patterns to cute characters and quirky illustrations.
Once the design is complete, the rug is glued, trimmed and shaped by hand to give it a lovely, fluffy finish.
Think of it as painting, but with yarn instead of paint!
